Arsenal have joined Sunderland in the race to sign Atlanta midfielder Franck Kessie, according to reports.

Kessie has been impressive for Atlanta this season and his performances have attracted a host of clubs including Arsenal.

According to Talksport, Arsenal are paying close attention to Kessie’s development in Italy and are lining up a future move for the Cote d’Ivoire international.

However, the Gunners wI’ll face serious competition for his signature as Sunderland, Juventus and Inter Milan are also keen on the young midfielder.

It is claimed that some interested clubs will try to sign the player in the next transfer window but Atlanta do not want to lose the midfielder and will try to keep hold off him.

Arsenal are unlikely to make a move for Kessie in the winter transfer window due to the number of options Arsene Wenger already has at his disposal. We currently have Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Francis Coquelin and Santi Cazorla in the position where Kessie plays.

A summer move is more realistic, we could be in search of a replacement for Cazorla if the Spaniard doesn’t sign a contract extension with us.

Kessie would be a perfect replacement for the Spaniard as his powerful and energetic style of play has seen him draw comparisons to Manchester City’s Yaya Toure who was regarded as one of the best box to box midfielders in the Premier League prior to Guardiola’s arrival at Man City.

The youngster has already scored 4 goals in 9 appearances from midfield this season which is more than an impressive start considering the position he plays.
