Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Per Mertesacker has handed Arsenal a huge boost by claiming he wants to extend his stay at the Emirates, according to a report in Ibtimes UK.

The club captain recently placed his Arsenal future in doubt when he publicly revealed that he will consider a move to the Bundesliga when his contract expires at the end of the season.

The veteran defender will be free to talk with other clubs interested in his services once he enters into the final six months of his contract and  Werder Bremen have since tried to take advantage of the situation by publicly declaring their interest in the German. The Bundesliga club chief recently revealed he held talks with the defender about the possibility of a future move last summer.

Arsene Wenger has now received a huge boost as the defender now wants to sign a new contract at Arsenal, he has revealed he is happy at the Emirates and won’t force a move away.

“An extension at Arsenal has absolute priority for me,” he told German website Spox. “There is no agreement on timing. For me, Arsenal is a top priority. Everything else is pure speculation and I will not participate in it.

Mertesacker’s route back into the first team has been made difficult by the solid partnership Shkodran Mustafi and Laurent Koscielny has built in his absence but he can still play a key role for us off the pitch as his experience is a great asset.

However, there is a chance that he could leave due to the number of centre back options available to Arsene Wenger. The captain might find himself behind Gabriel and Holding when he returns to action in early 2017.

We are being linked with centre defenders as his replacement and it could just be a hint that his time is up at Arsenal.
