Arsenal summer target Alexandre Lacazette is on the verge of signing a new contract at Olympic Lyon which will put an end to any hope of him moving to North London in the nearest future.
Lacazette is a long time Arsenal target and Wenger is believed to be a big fan of the striker. The boss has tried to sign him in the past three summer transfer windows but the last window was when we made real effort to bring him to the Emirates.
However, Lyon were not interested in selling and rejected a £29m offer from us. In a bid to make it difficult for any suitor in the future, Lyon has offered the player a new, improved contract.
According to L’Equipe via the Daily Cannon, the striker is on the verge of signing an improved contract which will include a £62.3m release clause.
Lacazette is in fine form for Lyon, having scored nine goals in seven league one games this season but the huge release clause in the new deal will definitely put off interested clubs, including Arsenal..
It is unthinkable that Arsene Wenger would sanction such a huge bid for a player who hasn’t proven himself outside the French League and who is even behind Olivier Giroud in the French national team’s pecking order.
Taking nothing away from the French man, he is a decent striker and at 25, can only continue to improve but there is no way he is worth £62.3m and I don’t think any right thinking club will pay that much for him regardless of his achievements this season.
