Theo Walcott believes the lack of quality in front of goal was the main reason Arsenal failed to beat Tottenham Hotspur in the North London Derby on Sunday.

Spurs held Arsenal to a 1-1 draw after Harry Kane’s second-half penalty cancelled out Kevin Winmann’s own goal. The Gunners tried to get a win as the game drew to an end but were unable to find the winning goal and Walcott believes our wastefulness in front of goal was our biggest problem.

“It was a difficult game, we had good periods in the game, but we didn’t manage to finish our chances,” Walcott said.

“These games are about working hard for the team, maybe we will look back on it as a good result.”

Walcott’s claim evokes memories of past seasons when Arsenal failed to live up to expectations in the title race due to lack of fire power.

Prior to this game, many Gooners were in high spirits after our recent form which saw us play 15 games unbeaten. Although we were able to extend our unbeaten run to 16 games, we missed a big opportunity to send a message to our rivals that this could really be our year to win the title.

Alex Iwobi, Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil, Olivier Giroud all missed glorious chances that could have earned us three points but we had to settle for a draw due to our wastefulness.

Arsenal had been undone by the lack of a top striker in the team in previous years and that was obvious today again as none of our strikers ( Sanchez and Giroud) could find the back of the net despite Spurs poor defensive performance.

There is still a long way to go until the end of the season and we are still in a strong position to win the league but we have to put more work on the training ground to improve our finishing if we must successfully challenge for the title this season.
