REVEALED: Arsenal To Break The Bank For This MEGA Star

Goonersden brings you news from top football news sites from the likes of ESPN, SkySport, Daily Mail, Daily Star and Metro… We also Analyse football, player, transfer and predict Arsenal starting line-up.

Arsenal made a record bid to sign Borussia Dortmund striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang in the summer transfer window, according to a very popular football agent.

The Gabonese striker was linked with a move to the Emirates in the summer but nothing materialized as BVB were not interested in selling the striker. Italian agent Vincenzo Morabito has now revealed that Wenger actually made a huge bid to sign the Gabon international.

Vincenzo who worked for Napoli in the summer to enquire about the possibility of Aubameyang moving to the Serie A has revealed that BVB had already rejected an £80m bid from Arsenal earlier in the summer.

“Sometime ago, I called Michael Zorc, Dortmund’s director of football, to talk about Aubameyang [on behalf of Napoli],” Morabito said to Italian station Radio CRC. “But the ‘no’ was absolutely categorical.

“I know that this summer, Arsenal offered €90m (£80m) for Aubameyang, but Borussia didn’t want to hear anything about it.”

Although these claims are coming from an agent who has little or no link with Arsenal, there is a possibility he has gotten his information from a source very close to BVB.

Earlier in the summer, a separate report made the rounds that Arsenal were prepared to pay £80m, although for Antoinne Greizmann who didn’t want to leave Atletico.

We can’t really tell if Morabito actually made this Aubameyang report up but one thing that can be deduced from this development is that Wenger was prepared to spend big on a striker (Whether Aubameyang or Greizmann) in the summer but couldn’t just get the right players. This should give us hope ahead of future windows that we are financially capable to bring the best players to North London, if available.
