Arsene Wenger tried to bring Paul Pogba to Arsenal from Manchester United in 2012, according to a report in the Daily Star.
Pogba who featured for Manchester United when we visited Old Trafford on Saturday could have been playing for us had Wenger had his way four years ago.
The French midfielder spent most of his formative years at the Manchester based club but left in 2012 in search of first team football and it has emerged that Wenger was interested in signing the midfielder then.
However, he snubbed our interest and opted for a move to Juventus where he developed into one of Europe’s best midfielders.
According to the Daily Star, Wenger confirmed in 2014 that we were interested in signing the midfielder from Man Utd but we weren’t quick enough to get a deal done.
“Things happened very quickly. We were interested in him,” Wenger said in 2014.
“We tried to get him to come here. But he very quickly signed for Juventus.”
The midfielder completed a world record £89m move back to Manchester United after his rapid improvement in Juventus and one can only wonder what could have become of our squad if we had succeeded in signing him then.
Personally, I am big fan of the midfielder and I’m sure we would have been on a different level by now if we had succeeded in signing him. However, I’m happy with the squad we’v got and with little tweaks here and there, we will be a better team than we are now.
