Arsenal, Manchester United and Chelsea are all keeping tabs on Atlanta defender Mattia Caldara, according to The Daily Express.
The centre back has been impressive for Atlanta this season, netting three goals already and his form hasn’t gone unnoticed as top Premier League clubs are now keeping an eye on his development.
Arsenal are believed to be one of the clubs keeping tabs on the young defender ahead of a future move.
We have been linked with a lot of centre backs in recent weeks, following doubts over the long term future of Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista. Mertesacker’s contract expires at the end of the season while Gabriel has been unable to impress since he joined in January 2015 and Wenger is reportedly keen on an upgrade to either of the duo.
It is unclear how much Caldara will cost but should he continue to impress, Atlanta could demand a large sum of money for his services.
Arsenal are also said to be monitoring another Serie A defender Kostas Manolas but Caldara represents a more realistic option at the moment considering Roma are looking to tie Manolas down to a new contract.
Arsenal signed Shkodran Mustafi for about £35m in the last transfer window and he has built a solid partnership with Laurent Koscielny already. Any new signing will be expected to come in to provide competition for the duo and Caldara would be ideal option.
