Arsenal target Steven N’Zonzi has put an end to speculations linking him with a move to the Premier League by signing a new deal at Sevilla.
The former Stoke City man has been one of La Liga’s best midfielders this season and was reportedly a target of Arsenal in the just concluded winter transfer window.
In January, Arsenal were linked with the midfield enforcer on several occasions with one of the reports even claiming Wenger would continue to keep an eye on his performances.
However, the midfielder has now crushed our hopes of signing him by penning a new deal at the Spanish club.
The new deal is expected to keep the player at Seville until 2020 which means they won’t be under any pressure to sell if we or any other interested club returns for his signature at the end of the season.
It’s anyone’s guess to say if Wenger was interested in the player or not but it does seem the player’s agent initiated reports linking him with a move back to the Premier League to secure a better deal for his client in Sevilla.
As for Arsenal, unless something drastic happens to Elneny, Coquelin or Xhaka between now and the end of the season, it is unlikely Wenger will make a move for another defensive midfielder which means our reported interest in the Sevilla man is all but over.
N’Zonzi has scored seven goals in 76 appearances for Sevilla since he joined them in 2015.
