Sky Sports Spanish football expert Guillem Balague doesn’t think Arsenal will sign Valencia left-back Jose Gaya.

In December, the Telegraph claimed Wenger who wants to strengthen his defense next summer has made Gaya his top target but Balague doesn’t believe the Spanish youngster is good enough to be top of Wenger’s wishlist.

Gaya has played just 14 league games for Valencia this season and is regarded as one of Spain’s most promising youngsters.

He has reportedly caught the attention of Arsene Wenger who is in search of a successor and back up to Nacho Monreal with his exciting performances.

When asked if Gaya could be one of Arsenal’s summer signings, Balague responded, as quoted by Sports Review:

“I don’t think he is a target for Arsenal. He renewed his contract until 2020 in May 2015 and is not yet a regular for Valencia. He would like to achieve that first before he moves on… if he moves on.”

Should Gaya manage to complete a move to the Emirates it is unlikely that he would become a regular yet. It would just become a better platform for him to continue his development with the hope he’ll fulfil his potential in the next few years.

Whether the Spaniard will be willing to stay at Valencia or continue his development at the Emirates, we will have to wait until the summer to find out but one thing looks certain, Wenger is on the look out for a new left back.

Wolfsbug’s Ricardo Rodriguez and Celtic’s Kieran Tierney are other left backs reportedly on Wenger’s radar.
