Chelsea have moved ahead of Arsenal in the race to sign Alvaro Morata, according to the Telegraph.
Both clubs tried to sign the striker last summer but Madrid resisted all approaches for the forward in order to keep him at the Bernabeu.
However, things haven’t gone as planned for the forward as he finds himself firmly behind Karim Benzema in Madrid’s pecking order. He is said to be unhappy with his limited chances at the Bernabeu and is seeking for an exit.
Arsenal and Chelsea are the clubs reportedly keeping tabs on the striker but the Telegraph suggests the Blues have surged ahead of us in the race for the Spaniard’s services.
According to the report, Morata has already told his friends that he expects to join Antonio Conte at Chelsea next season.
Conte tried to sign the 24 year old at Juventus in 2014 but left the Italian club before the player completed the move. The Italian tactician still retains huge admiration for the forward and is keen to work with him at Stamford Bridge.
I’m sure this wouldn’t go down well with many Gooners as it means losing another star player to one of our fiercest rivals.
Wenger recently revealed he tried to sign N’Golo Kante twice and finally lost out to Chelsea for his signature and many will be keen for this not to happen again.
Morata has the potential to become a top player like Kante and may be another signing we could regret losing out to a rival.
