Spanish giants Barcelona have identified Mesut Ozil as one of their summer targets, according to reports.
Arsenal are working hard to get Ozil to sign a contract extension here but we have been unable to reach an agreement with the German.
With the summer transfer window drawing closer by the day, admirers of the German have been boosted by the contract impasse between the player and Arsenal.
And it’s now being said that Barcelona one of those clubs who have been boosted by the player’s refusal to sign a new deal.
According to the Mirror, the Catalan giants have made enquires about Ozil and are prepared to make a move if he hasn’t signed a new deal by the end of the season.
We have been made to believe that the reason Ozil is yet to agree a new deal at Arsenal is because he wants a new deal worth more than £250,000 weekly but Arsenal think that’s too much increase to his current £140,000 a week.
The report also mentioned German giants Bayern Munich as another club keeping tabs on the playmaker in view to making a move next summer also.
This will come as a huge blow to Gooners who had high hopes on Arsenal keeping the midfielder. The prospect of losing our best players is not something any Arsenal wants to experience again, if you know what I mean.
I’ll urge the decision makers at our club to meet the German’s demands so he can sign a new deal. Our reluctance to meet his demands and the growing interests in his services will continue to put him in a stronger position during negotiations which could be to our own detriment at the end of the day.
