Club President Praise Defender After Recent Transfer Decision

Monaco vice-president Vadim Vasilyev has showered praises on Djibril Sidibe for rejecting Arsenal’s approach last summer.

Arsenal were interested in signing the full back in August but he turned down a move to the Emirates to join Monaco, saying we made an offer too late for him to think about it thoroughly.

He’s gone on to become one of Monaco’s stand out performers this season, helping the principality club to top of the French league table and Vasilyev has hailed the French man’s decision to snub a move to Arsenal last summer, backing him to now join a bigger club.

“That is part of life as a turn-over club. That some players come in and go out, that is part of our project,” the Monaco chief said,

“ Sidibé preferred Monaco to Arsenal, now he is in the French national team and can join the top European clubs. He deserves it ,” he continued.

Sidibe is a versatile defender who can comfortably play either as a left back or a right back and it’s not surprising that Arsenal were keen on his services.

However, Arsenal fans will be drawn to Vasilyev’s  statement “now he is in the French national team and can join top European clubs”. Does this mean we are no longer considered as a European heavyweight?

You wouldn’t blame him anyway, it’s been twelve years since we last won a major trophy, it’s been more than five years that we got past the Champions League round of 16.

Believe it or not we have gradually dropped from the top of world football and that’s more than enough reason something needs to change this summer
