Arsenal are reportedly considering a transfer move for highly-rated Toulouse goalkeeper Alban Lafont as a replacement for current backup ‘keeper David Ospina.
The Colombian shot-stopper is looking likely to leave the Emirates Stadium this summer after struggling for games in his three years with the Gunners, but his departure would leave Arsene Wenger short of options.
With Petr Cech set to turn 36 next season, and Emiliano Martinez not looking a reliable enough stand-in option, Lafont could be an ideal signing if Wenger can lure him to north London.
The 18-year-old has impressed in France over the last couple of seasons, becoming a first-teamer in 2015/16 when still only 16 years of age.
Upon making his debut aged 16 years and 310 days, the France Under-20 international became Ligue 1’s youngest ever goalkeeper, and his performances have now caught Arsenal’s eye, according to Le 10 Sport.
The report states that while Wenger is currently eyeing a replacement for Ospina, he could also view Lafont as the long-term replacement for Cech if he fulfills his great potential.
Arsenal are yet to make an offer for the youngster, but are assessing their options with Saint-Etienne goalkeeper Stephane Ruffier also thought to be on Wenger’s radar.
