Arsene Wenger staunchly believes in his ideology which is why he is unmoved by the activities of his rival Clubs in the transfer window. The Gunners manager failed to qualify for the Champions League but he has spent less than the Manchester Clubs and Chelsea to bolster his squad.

While it is nuts to draw a conclusion from any pre-season game, the defeat to Chelsea somewhat exposed some of our frailties in midfield. In a bid to remedy this, Arsenal have opened talks with Sporting to sign our long term target William Carvalho, claims transfer guru Tancredi Palmeri.

Following the uncertainty that has beclouded the future of Jack Wilshere and the continuous absence of Santi Cazorla, Arsenal are a tad short of quality options in midfield. According to Portuguese media outlet Record, Arsenal are in talks with Sporting for the player and he is keen on a switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Carvalho has been on the radar of Arsenal for quite some time now but despite all the advances of the Gunners, they have failed to secure a deal for him. However, there now light at the end of the tunnel for Arsenal as it is given that  Carvalho’s agent Pere Guardiola could broker the deal.

Palmeri confirmed on Sunday that a deal for the player is on the offing as the player is keen on a move to realise his dream of playing for Arsenal.

“Arsenal are in talks with Sporting for William Carvalho.”

Carlvaho is valued at £40million but knowing Arsene Wenger, he may be unwilling to fork out such sum.
