Chelsea and Arsenal have been handed a significant blow in their transfer pursuit of Kostas Manolas, with Roma sporting director Monchi has dismissed talk the club could sell the Greek defender
The 26-yer-old has been linked several times with the Blues this summer, with some suggestion that Antonio Conte remains keen on signing another centre-back despite already bringing in Antonio Rudiger.
John Terry, Nathan Ake, Kurt Zouma and Nathaniel Chalobah have all left Stamford Bridge in this transfer window, leaving Chelsea somewhat short of Conte’s desired squad depth in defence.
The Gunners, meanwhile, were said to be lining up a move for the £35million rated centre-back last month, though it never amounted.
And now Roma’s sporting director, Monchi, has confirmed the former Olympiacos man will not be leaving this summer.
“Manolas for sale? No, we are working to sign players, not sell them,” Monchi told Mediaset Premium.
“I spend all day with the players and can see they have faith in the coach and the system they are adopting.”
Manolas has shown himself to be one of the top defenders in Serie A in recent times, and has also been linked with other top Premier League teams in recent times.
