Arsenal fans have being given hopes that selling Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain on transfer deadline day was a good idea.
Oxlade-Chamberlain rejected a new deal at the club however, and an insipid final appearance for the Gunners in the 4-0 thrashing at Liverpool convinced Wenger to sell.
Now Arsene Wenger hopes that wingers Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock, both 17, will now feature more often in the first team.
“We wish him well and all the best,” Wenger said of Oxlade-Chamberlain.
“At the end of the day, you make decisions and we had to sell somebody.
“Overall, I feel that we are in a strong financial situation today and have a good enough squad to compete.
“I think he is a great player but sometimes it opens the door for Nelson or Willock to get an opportunity.
“I cannot come out with every single conversation I have with the players.
“The talks between the player and manager is secret.”
