Arsenal have been handed a massive boost to resign former Arsenal star Bacary Sagna as West Ham manager Slaven Bilic has ruled out a move for the Manchester City defender.
He wrote: “We have been linked with Bacary Sagna, who is out of contract and a free agent.
“Bacary is a fine player who has played at the highest standard, but he is a full-back and this is not a position in which we need strengthening.”
The 34-year-old was a huge fan favourite during his time at Arsenal and with Sagna now a free-agent, the potential signing could be a huge boost to the sagging morale of the Arsenal boardroom and fans.
According to Bookmakers BetStars, Bacary Sagna could be returning to north London after three years away.
The 34-year-old was released by Manchester City at the end of last season and is currently priced at 3/1 to head back to the Emirates.
“Arsenal are 3/1 contenders to snap up 34-year-old Bacary Sagna, who is currently a free agent after being released by Manchester City,” BetStars director Ian Marmion said.
“Former French International Sagna spent seven seasons with the Gunners and won the FA Cup in 2014 before moving north to join the Etihad side.”
However, the Gunners face stiff competition for his signature with Torino at the head of a long queue for the former Auxerre man.
“Serie A side Torino are favourites to sign Sagna and are priced at 5/2 with BetStars to recruit him to replace Davide Zappacosta, who made a deadline day switch to Chelsea,” Marmion added.
“Crystal Palace, Chelsea and Manchester United are also interested in signing the experienced right-back.
“The Eagles are 7/2 to bring him to Selhurst Park with Premier League champions Chelsea poised at 5/1.
“A move to Old Trafford can be backed at 7/1 as Jose Mourinho seeks defensive reinforcements amid an injury outbreak.”
Sagna has more than 350 appearances in the top flight and will definitely add some tactical nous and experience to Arsene Wenger’s side.
