According to Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla, Athletic Bilbao goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga is waiting for a move to Real Madrid.
The 23-year-old player has been linked with both the La Liga champions and Arsenal in recent weeks with the stopper reportedly rejected a new contract offer to stay at the San Mames.
Pedulla says that Kepa has been offered €5million a season to stay at Bilbao, which is far more than previously reported by Spanish newspaper Marca. It means that the keeper’s decision to reject signing a new deal is about more than money.
It has been reported too that the club want a €75m release clause for Kepa, and this has been the reason the young goalkeeper has so far refused to commit his future to the Basque club. This is an amount that could price him out of a move to Madrid.
Whether Arsenal could take advantage of the situation, it seems unlikely if the Spanish under 21 international is set on a switch to the Bernabeu. The Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is said to be pursuing a young goalkeeper as a long-term replacement for Petr Cech, but they lost out to Everton for target Jordan Pickford in the summer.
