Liverpool have joined the race to land Bayern Leverkusen wonderkid Kai Havertz, according to stories. The Reds sent officials to watch the player in Germany’s U19s clash with Belarus on Wednesday.
The 18-year-old netted four goals during Germany’s 5-1 victory, living up to similarities with Bayern Munich legend Michael Ballack.
The Gunners and Manchester United have been keeping tabs on the youngster for over 18 months. However, Liverpool scouts were present at the game to observe the midfielder, according to the Daily Mail
Havertz played 24 games for Leverkusen last campaign, netting four goals for the Bundesliga side. The midfielder made his debut at the age of 17 and has made four appearances at the start of this year.
Leverkusen will not consider offers for the youngster in January but are realistic about keeping the player in the long-term.
Meanwhile, Arsenal target Kepa Arrizabalaga is supposedly on the brink of signing a new deal with Athletic Bilbao.
The 23-year-old keeper, who has also been linked with Real Madrid, is on course to agree on a profitable deal extension which adds a £66.5m release clause, as reported by the Marca.
Arrizabalaga’s current deal is up at the end of the campaign and includes a £8.8m buyout clause.
Though the story does not specify the length of the mooted new contract, it suggests that the stopper will earn around £2.7m per season if he puts pen to paper.
The keeper has been mentioned as one of the best young shot-stoppers in Europe and has drawn parallels to Manchester United’s David De Gea.
