Liverpool Midfielder Coutinho is surprisingly not in Barcelona’s January transfer target. The Brazilian international almost joined the Spanish giants in the summer but Liverpool rejected Barca’s bid for his services. They are set to reignite their zeal to sign him from the Merseyside club in January according to last month’s report via The Sun.

According to Marca this morning, the Blaugrana have listed some players they would like to sign in the winter so as to avoid being over-reliance on Messi and aging Andres Iniesta for midfield creativity.

Barca’s targeted players are Mesut Ozil from Arsenal, Nabil Fekir from Ligue 1 club Lyon. Others include Max Meyer and Leon Goretzka they both play for Schalke 04 in Germany; and Aleksandr Golovin who plays for CSKA Moscow in Russia.

It was believed that Coutinho was omitted from the list due to Liverpool’s reluctance in letting go of the player. The Spanish giants could also find it difficult to acquire Mesut Ozil’s signature in the winter as Arsene Wenger maintains his stand over the German playmaker’s future at Arsenal. The Frenchman insist Mesut Ozil won’t leave the North London club in January.

Barcelona are also interested in Antoine Griezmann and Arthur. They are said to be monitoring the players until next year’s summer transfer market when they will officially approach them.

Barcelona currently occupy the first position in the La Liga standings, nine points ahead of Atletico Madrid who are in the second position.

Liverpool are in the fifth position in the Premier League table with 38 Points
