According to a report from the Express, Arsene Wenger is reportedly considering cutting his two-year Arsenal contract short – but only if Mikel Arteta is his replacement.
The French manager signed a new two-year deal with Arsenal at the end of last season, keeping him in north London until the 2018/19 campaign.
However, the 68-year-old is said to have a break clause in his contract and could cut short his tenure to move into the boardroom.
The Mirror claim Wenger is considering the option of stepping down in the summer in order to move upstairs at the Emirates.
But he will only do so if former club captain Mikel Arteta is instated as his replacement.
The report says Arsenal have held informal talks with the Spaniard about a potential return to the Emirates.
However, there is said to be some pressure from officials at the club to make their own appointment, rather than relying on Wenger’s recommendation.
