Arsenal have received great news over their pursuit of former Manchester United full-back Jonny Evans as they could get the Irishman for just £3million should they wait till next summer transfer market, according to reports.

The Northern Ireland international has been impressive for the Baggies despite the team’s uninspiring display in the season, and he is being tracked by a host of clubs including Manchester City and Arsenal.

The Citizens have been monitoring the veteran defender since last summer, but they didn’t make an official approach for the player. Though City and Arsenal have now made a formal approach for the player’s services, they might be unable to complete his signature as Westbrom remain reluctant to let go of their influential captain.

Westbrom have placed a price tag of £23million for any club hoping to acquire his services, but they might lose the player for as low as £3million should they relegate at the end of the season, according to the Express.

The Express further revealed that Evans has a relegation-release clause of £3million in his contract which he signed with the Baggies in 2013.

Another sport journal, Daily Star reports that Westbrom manager Alan Pardew is set to offload him in January to avoid losing £20million in the summer as he can’t guarantee the Baggies’ safety at the end of the season.

Arsene Wenger who is desperate to find a lasting solution to his team’s lackluster defensive display might be forced to sign the reliable and experienced defender before the end of the month.
