Former Manchester United player, Wayne Rooney, has backed Arsenal new boy Henrikh Mkhitaryan to succeed at his new club, according to report.

Mkhitaryan joined Arsenal in the January transfer window after a swap deal that saw Alexis Sanchez move to Old Trafford was agreed between Manchester United and Arsenal.

Mkhi was one of the first buys for Jose Mourinho in the summer of 2016 and he joined from Borussia Dortmund with the pedigree of a fierce attacking midfielder. The Armenian attacking midfielder started this season brightly but he fell down the selection pecking order of Jose Mourinho has he failed to impress the Portuguese manager.

Mourinho openly criticized Mkhi and that further dampen the confidence of Mkhi, who was left out of action for close to two months. Ironically, Mkhi was handed his first start for Arsenal against Everton and he provided three assist in the game. Rooney reckons that Mkhi would succeed at Arsenal given the style of play.

‘I think he is [better suited to Arsenal],’ Rooney told Monday Night Football. ‘I saw it in training with him – he’s a very talented player. At United, he didn’t get the freedom he really wanted to perform which he had at Dortmund.

‘It was a different style and at Arsenal, he’ll have players round him. He’ll create goals, he’ll score goals and I think he’ll kick on.’

Rooney watched from the sideline how Arsenal thumped his side in the Premier League.

Arsenal appears to have found a new found rhythm and there is suddenly the believe that they can end the season in top four places.

Arsenal also signed Mkhitaryan’s former teammates Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang from Borrussia Dortmund and the star has already hit the ground running.
