Mathieu Debuchy revealed he was “angry” at Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger after his move to Manchester United was blocked.
The Frenchman was linked with a move to Old Trafford two years ago as he struggled for games at the Emirates and wanted a move.
But much to the frustration of the former Newcastle star, Wenger refused to let him go to a Premier League rival.
Debuchy, 32, told RMC: “I would have liked to have left Arsenal earlier and to have played for a different club… There were moments when I was angry with the manager.
“There was an approach from Manchester United and he did not want me to leave.”
Debuchy finally ended his nightmare spell in North London last month as he secured a move to Saint-Etienne.
He only made seven appearances in all competitions this season as Hector Bellerin continued in the right-back position.
And with the development of Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the full-back positions, Debuchy was no longer needed at the club.
