Reports suggest German international Mesut Ozil is regretting signing a new contract with Arsenal, according to ESPN FC pundit Steve Nicol.
The German was due to be a free agent this summer and was expected to leave at the end of the season.
Alexis Sanchez left the club last month, joining Premier League rivals Manchester United in a swap deal that saw Henrikh Mkhitaryan move the other way.
Ozil had also been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with rumours suggesting he was desperate for a reunion with former Real Madrid boss Jose Mourinho.
But the 29-year-old put pen to paper on a new three-and-a-half-year deal worth £350,000-a-week on deadline day.
With the recent poor run this season under manager Arsene Wenger, and the Gunners’ hopes of qualifying for next season’s Champions League now rest on going all the way in the Europa League.
And Nicol believes that Ozil will be regretting his decision to commit his future to Arsenal.
“I tell you who will be thinking that [what have I done], Ozil”, he said.
“He’s just signed a new deal.”
