Finishing out of the top four couldn’t have been what the Gunners expected, out of last term. The length of their loses last term seemed to have stretched long enough, leading many to rule out their chances of any recovery.

Former Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger faced a lot of sharp remarks last term too, with Arsenal fans calling for his replacement. And a few other players were underwhelming under his tutelage.

Swiss international Xhaka Granit was one of them. The 25-year-old had a poor run for the North London outfit at the start of last term, leaving no traces of doubt that he could be offloaded and a new prospect would fill his space.

However, Granit tilted to the better side towards the end of the season and gradually changed the tempo of most games for Arsenal. The Swiss midfielder was pivotal for the English club before the end of last term.

His performance could be called a personal season best and Arsenal are happy he’s accepted their new deal. The Swissman has signed a new deal with the club, although the details of the deal is unknown, yet, club boss Unai Emery is glad they still have him for the long haul, reports Arsenal.com.

“I’m delighted that Granit has extended his contract with us. He’s an important member of the squad and is still young so will be able to develop even more. I hope he has a successful World Cup with Switzerland and comes back fit and ready for the new season.”

Granit will reunite will veteran Stephan Lichtsteiner after the World Cup next term and many will hope he can learn a lot from the 30-year-old.
