Sky Sports confirm Arsenal New signing as Shirt Number assigned

Arsenal have completed the signing the Uruguay international midfielder Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria, who is competing in World Cup with the national side, according to reports.

The North London club have been linked with a summer move for the 22-year-old, and it was reported earlier this week that the Gunners had seen their offer worth a whopping £26m (€30m) accepted by Sampdoria for the midfielder.

And now, Italian outlet Di Marzio reporter Fabrizi Romano has added more fuel to the speculations by claiming the deal that will see Torreira a Gunners is “done” on Twitter by replying a fan on Twitter regarding the speculations surrounding the midfielder’s link with Arsenal.

It had earlier been suggested that talks over the Uruguayan signing would be on hold until after the World Cup, with the midfielder representing Uruguay, but it seems the two parties involve has rushed the deal to get the young midfielder signed even before their opening fixture against Egypt on Friday.

Arsenal have already confirmed the signing of Stephan Lichtsteiner, from Juventus on a free transfer, while the Gunners move for Borussia Dortmund defender Sokratis and Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Bernd Leno is expected to be done in the coming weeks.

However, there no reference from any quarter to the length of deal the midfielder will sign for Arsenal. Despite this, fans taken social media with various reactions on different platforms welcoming the midfielder to Arsenal, with some suggesting he’s likely to be given the vacant “No. 28” shirt number he was signed in 2018. And while some are deriving fun from this, some took their wishing moment to extra level by editing and photoshopping the midfielder in an Arsenal shirt.
