Arsenal, Liverpool, and several unnamed League side are said to be watching with interest, one of Bundesliga’s sensational young midfield talent and set piece expert with the players parent club reportedly slapping an £18m price-tag on the player’s head.
‘TalkSport’ reckon the Bundesliga side are attempting to start a bidding war in the summer, if relegation does force them to sell their prized asset.
Hakan Calhanoglu, 20, has hit the headlines recently after scoring some of the most extraordinary goals of the season so far with the youngster likened to Arsenal star Mesut Ozil by Winfried Schafer, the now Jamaican head coach and former Karlsruher midfielder, with the German insisting the attacker has all the attributes needed to become one world’s top performers.

Calhanoglu started his professional career at Karlsruher SC. The club signed him in 2009 for their youth program, where he played for the clubs Under 19 Bundesliga team. After promising performances he joined the first team during the winter break of the 2011–12 Bundesliga season under manager Jørn Andersen. He started his first game in February 2011 against FC Erzgebirge Aue and gave the assist to both goals in the 2-1 victory. In March 2012, he signed a new contract until June 2016 and in July 2012, he scored his first two professional goals in a 3-1 win against FC Heidenheim.
After the start of the 2012–13 Bundesliga season, Calhanoglu signed a four-year contract for Bundesliga club Hamburger SV, but remained at Karlruhe for the rest of the season on loan. At the end of the campaign, in which he scored 17 goals, he was voted player of the season.
For the 2013–14 Bundesliga season, he joined Hamburg and played his first game in the Bundesliga in a 3-3 draw against FC Schalke 04. and in August 2013 he scored his first two Bundesliga goals against Eintracht Braunschweig.
With the summer transfer window edging closer and the list of Arsenal targets ever increasing, it is expected that a number of players would be linked to the Emirates.
However many Arsenal faithfuls would only want nothing but the best of players to join the Arsenal army in the summer but the final decision on the signing of player to the club falls on the Arsenal board and Manager Arsene Wenger. even though the Arsenal board as assured fans of funds being made available for “big players”.
Looking at the performance of this gifted young midfielder, one would love to see him pair up with the already talented Arsenal midfield. But would this youngster see a move to Arsenal? only time would tell also it must be considered that In February this year, Calhanoglu extended his contract with Hamburg until June 2018.
