One man who has been firing home all through this season is no other than Uruguayan “goal-machine” Luis Suarez with the Talented Striker netting 29 times already and has now been compared to one of Arsenal’s great.
The prolific striker was heavily linked to almost all Europe’s elite clubs last summer with the likes of Arsenal, Real Madrid, and several other giants all bidding to land the star striker.
The Uruguayan is breaking records as he bids to lead Liverpool to a historic Premier League title, and there is no mistaking if he does – he will be remembered as one of the greats.
Presently just five goals shy of Alan Shearer’s 34-goal league record, yet that was achieved in a 42 game season, and Suarez missed the start of this season through suspension.
Speaking on SkySports Monday Night Football, Carragher said that former Arsenal great Thierry Henry would be the player he would compare the Uruguayan to.
He said: “He’ll be as close you get to Thierry Henry. As close as anybody in the Premier League era.
“He has goals, assists, and conjures up moments of magic, he’s the full package.
“If he leads them to the title that’s the calibre we’re talking about.”
Thierry Henry, now 36, will always have a special place in Premier League history for his role in Arsenal’s unbeaten season of 2003/04.
He is widely acknowledged as the most complete striker of the modern era, so for Suarez to be compared to him alone is a great honour.
But it is not just goals alone which are part of Suarez’ expertise, he has 11 assists too in addition to his 29 strikes, and it’s this all round game which Jamie Carragher believes sets him apart from the likes of out and out strikers such as Shearer and Van Nistelrooy.
As Carragher rightly points out however, first – Suarez must lead Liverpool to win the trophy. They currently top the premiere league table follwing Chelsea’s 1-0 defeat last weekend to crystal palace. With Liverpool thrashing Aston Villa 4-1 in which suarez scored one goal and assisted another. With six games remaining of their season, Liverpool play host to both Chelsea and Manchester City.
Henry’s greatest season from a scoring standpoint in the league was the 03/04 campaign, in which he netted exactly 30 times, only one more than Suarez has at present.
That season he provided nine assists, a figure Suarez has already surpassed.
As Carragher points out, it’s about the medal more than the numbers alone, but should Suarez lead liverpool to a league title success this season, he could as well be placed on Par with the likes of Henry and several other premier league greats.
