The Costa Rican midfielder who signed a five-year deal with Arsenal from Deportivo Saprissa in 2011 after rejecting offers from Sevilla and Fiorentina failed to obtain a work permit to enable him to play in England.
The young midfielder has spent the last three seasons out on loan at Loriant in France, Real Betis in Spain and Greek Champions Olympiacos after arriving at the Emirates Stadium in 2011 from Saprissa.
The 21-year-old attacking midfielder, who can also operate as a striker, will return to Arsenal at the end of the season and is desperate for a chance to prove he is ready for the first team.

Campbell could be a loan target for Newcastle as they seek to replace Loic Remy, who is expected to return to parent club QPR in the summer before being sold on.
