Arsenal Boss Arsene Wenger, has made signing of a new defensive midfielder a top priority. With the Frenchman narrowing his sights on Lars Bender as his main summer transfer target.
Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Bender, is widely aclaimed as Arsenal’s first-choice midfield target this summer. With Wenger making a new defensive midfielder a must-get this summer, as well as at least one central striker. And the Gunners will make a move to bring the German international to the Emirates Stadium ahead of next season.
Although the gunners dream central midfield signing would be Borussia Dortmund star Ilkay Gundogan, but the Gunners know they are unlikely to lure him away from the Westfalenstadion.
But Arsenal feel Bender is obtainable this summer and will get the wheels moving over a potential deal after the FA Cup Final on May 17.
Wenger, who has been a long time admirer of the 25-year-old Bayer Leverkusen star and is set to bid £20million to get his man. After the Frenchman had earlier failed to land the 6ft 1in star last year – with an £18.5million bid turned down. But Wenger is said to be keen on bringing the 25-year-old to the Emirates Stadium this summer.
Wenger hopes that Bender will add physical presence and a technical ability to his midfield and will be a direct replacement for aging Mikel Arteta with the ex-Everton man having endured a difficult season and doubts are growing over whether he can cut it as a top four player for the gunners next term.
