Arsenal have since the start of the year made it serious business to commit players to the club for the long haul – with a significant amount of first team players having penned down new deals with the club.
However, few players in the Arsenal team still remain unsettled with Bacary Sagna and Lukasz Fabianski both out of contract this summer, and Wenger insists he would like both to stay at the club.
“We have only two players who are out of contract – Fabianski and Sagna,” he said.
“All the rest need our agreement and they haven’t got it yet. I want to keep [Fabianski]. He’s 29 and has a decision to make. Does he want to stay here or move and have a guarantee to be No 1? He knows I want to keep him. I hope, because we have shown faith in him for long periods, that we will be rewarded for that.”
One man who Wenger is yet to convince is Bacary Sagna. The 31-year-old is also out of contract at the end of the season and reports earlier this week are suggesting he could join English rivals Chelsea or Manchester City rather than completing a move abroad.
But there seem to be hope for the Arsenal defence as The Metro, earlier this week reported that French website Le10Sport are convinced 28-year-old centre back Laurent koscielny has already clinched a new deal at the Emirates and will now stay until 2019. With Wenger further confirming that a deal is underway while speaking at a press conference this morning at the London Colney centre
