When 21-year-old youngster Serge Aurier posted this picture on his official twitter account last summer, the Ivorian caused quite a scare and an upstream of rumours that he has been signed by Arsenal.
But that was not the case as the pacy right-back is simply a die-hard Arsenal fan and was only showing support to the club he loves since he was a boy.
The picture was also regarded as a clear ‘come and get me’ message to the gunners – and indeed the player’s dream might just come through this summer with the gunners seriously in need of a decent right back with the impending departure of club veteran right-back Bacary Sagna from the Emirates.
With Bacary Sagna set to leave Arsenal at the end of the season, the hunt has been on for a new right-back for some time with a flock of player being lined up as his replacement.
Italian media giant Tuttomercatoweb with its wide network of connections to football agents and clubs, are claiming that Serge Aurier is close to penning a five year deal with the gunners.
Arsenal have been linked with the Toulouse player for quite some time but this sees a development in the story which claims the deal is close. Of course, at this time of the season it’s hard to tell if this news is a confirmation, but it’s safe to say that this story has come from an agent or club so there is some sort of truth behind it.
Although Arsene Wenger has warned fans not to expect much/any business till the end of the World Cup but we know that he rarely tells the truth when it comes to transfers. Also, when it comes to Arsenal being ‘close’ to a player that can often mean ‘a few months away.’
Aurier is a decent player in my own opinion that likes to go forward as well (just like departing Sgana) and a 5-year-deal would see the player get enough time to fill in the ‘big shoes’ Sagna is about to leave behind with the player also having age at his side being only 21.
