Eyebrows had been raised as regards the Arsenal academy failing to develop decent youngsters that will someday break into the Arsenal senior team – with many pointing out a clear example of the lack of productivity from the youth academy when club manager Arsene Wenger fielded one of his oldest squad since the invincible’s in 2004 against Hull City at the Emirates stadium recently.
The last Arsenal youth academy graduate to successfully break into the senior team squad and make a name for himself remains 23-year-old Jack Wilshere, and ever since there has been cold comfort from the youth camp.
Although Wenger remains an avid admirer and supporter of the Arsenal academy, but due to the lack of progress (talents and other kinds) from the Arsenal youth camp the Frenchman has often looked elsewhere to find the talents he needs in his side.
However, Alex Iwobi just recently signed a professional contract. with the club revealing that the young winger has agreed and signed professional terms with the North London outfit.
The 18-year-old England youth international has been a regular for Arsenal Under-18s this term and has also made six appearances in the U21 Premier League in 2013/14.
Quick and skillful, Iwobi was a stand-out performer in the Gunners’ FA Youth Cup campaign this season. He scored three goals in six appearances to help the team to the semi-finals of the elite youth competition, including a crucial strike against Charlton Athletic in the fifth round.
Versatile forward Alex is capable of playing anywhere across the front line.
The talented youngster, who has been with Arsenal since the age of eight, has earned international recognition with England at Under-16 level.
Skillful and quick with an eye for goal, Alex can play on either wing or just behind the striker in a three-pronged attack. While capable of scoring goals, Alex has also built up a reputation as a creative forward who can play an incisive pass.
There is no surprise as to his remarkable skill and talent as the youngster is the nephew of multi-talented former Nigeria international; Jay-Jay Okocha. Who simply is a living legend and dazzling skills can be placed at par with the likes of football greats such as Ronaldinho and the likes.
His signing of professional terms with the Gunners is something Arsenal fans should watch out for as this Nigerian-born English International is certainly going to impress in the near future.
