Following the press conference held this morning at the London Colney centre, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger gave updates on his team and current situations at the club and amongst those talked about was that of veteran defender; Bacary Sagna and his current stalling contract talks.
Although Wenger says he does not doubt Sagna’s commitment on the pitch even though the defender has not signed a new contract.
Wenger could select the 31-year-old to play in the FA Cup final even though Sagna has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal.
Asked whether there had been any progress made on signing the Frenchman to a new deal, Wenger said:
“The ball is in his camp and I can’t influence that. But I don’t have any doubts over his commitment [on the pitch].”
Sagna joined the Gunners from Auxerre in the summer of 2007 and currently remains our longest serving player at the moment, but has refused to extend his contract at Arsenal despite several offers from the club. His contract expires at the end of the season when he’ll be able to sign for free elsewhere.
Among several club desperate for the signature of the 31-year-old are Manchester City, Chelsea, Galatasary and PSG. With league Champions – City reportedly leading the race to sign the veteran Defender.
