With the Arsenal season over, The transfer window has been thrown wide open with a lot of player being linked with a move to the Emirates as well as several other Arsenal stars being linked with a move out of the Emirates.
Fiorentina are eyeing a potential double swoop for Arsenal’s Thomas Vermaelen and Mikel Arteta according to the Mirror.
The Arsenal captain has been said to want a move out of the Emirates in search of first team action, something which he has lacked at Arsenal, given to the fine form and partnership of Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny who in recent times have been preferred by the Arsenal boss at the centre of the defence over the captain.
Although this recent turn of events was brought about due to the defender’s concurrent injury crisis that gave pair Koscielny and Mertesacker time to form a fine blend at the heart of the Arsenal back.
While Assistant captain; Mikel Arteta could also exit the Emirates with the Spaniard having just a year left on his current contract.
Although the 32-year-old has said he will hold talks with Wenger before the start of next season over his future but Arsenal’s current over 30-year-old/1-year contract policy will be something to worry about, with the midfielder having earlier complained about the over age restrictions at Arsenal.
Viola sporting director Eduardo Macia is already working hard, trying to add reinforcements to his squad for next season despite the season just finishing over the weekend. And is looking towards the Emirates to snap up Arsenal duo.
Sportmediaset report that both players have contracts expiring next year and there are doubts surrounding both player’s futures at the London club.
Vermaelen has struggled for playing time this season and it is possible his future could lie away from the Gunners.
With Arsenal being notoriously reluctant to give long term contracts to players over the age of 30, the 32 year old Arteta’s future at the club also hangs under a huge cloud.
Fiorentina are said to be looking at both players’ situations with keen interest.
One other major reason that could see both the captain and his assistant exit the Emirates this summer is due to the likely signings to be made by Wenger when the transfer window open as the Frenchman looks to add more quality to his squad to enable them push for more silverwares next season, and this would see them fall down the pecking order at the Emirates.
