The young Argentine star had during the course of last season stared up the interests of major clubs with the likes of Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Real Madrid, Inter Milan and Roma all closely watching the 20-year-old with an intent on swooping him this summer.
The media have dubbed Iturbe as the “new Lionel Messi”, because of their many comparisons With Iturbe being an Argentine, quick on the ball, a goal-scorer and his diminutive stature being 1.69m tall, all of which are Messi’s traits.
European Champions Real Madrid, are reportedly edging closer to the signing of Verona winger Juan Iturbe according to The Express.
The Argentina Under-20 international has caught the eye of a host of top European clubs during his season-long loan at Verona this term, scoring eight goals and assisting five.
And the Serie A club recently opted to activate their £13.2m clause to sign him on a permanent basis from Porto, with the intent to sell him for a profit.
Reports in Italy reveal that Los Blancos are set to hold talks with Verona and Iturbe’s agent within the next few hours to beat potential suitors to his signature.
Premier League duo Liverpool and Arsenal have been keeping tabs on the 20-year-old since January, but could be put off by the inflated price of at least £24m.
Verona’s director Sean Sogliano said:
“Iturbe? For me he is worth more than £24m.
“If we can sell at a figure to make a fortune for Verona he may leave, I do not know where he will go. I will only sit down with those who really want him.”
