Swansea City are to reopen negotiations for FC Twente forward Luc Castaignos, who is understood to be a replacement for Arsenal target Wilfried Bony according to the Express.
Bony adjusted to the Premier League expertly following his £12million transfer from Vitesse last summer, scoring 17 league goals and 27 in all competitions.
The 25-year-old’s performances have attracted Gunners boss Arsene Wenger, who is keen to provide competition for Olivier Giroud up front.
The Swans had earlier in the start of the transfer window slapped a whooping £25million price tag on the head of striker Bony in an attempt to ward off interests from the likes of Arsenal and Liverpool.
And Castaignos, who found the back of the net 14 times in the Eredivisie last season, is being lined up to take over the Swans’ front line leaving the road clear for the Gunners to move in for Bony.
The Dutch outfit claim the deal is far from complete, but are confident of a deal being worked out when the Netherlands Under-21 international returns from his break.
Twente chairman Joop Munsterman said: “It will be a while before things can be done.
“The choice is up to the player. Only when Luc is back from vacation and is negotiating with Swansea can we expect progress. And as I have said, the clubs can work it out.”
Arsene Wenger and his scouts have on several occasion watched Bony in action, who is preparing for his first World Cup with the Ivory Coast, after his impressive haul of 27 goals in 34 appearance in all competitions in his first season in England.
The former Vitesse player who prior to his joining Premier league side – Swansea, ended the season as the Eredivisie’s top scorer with 31 goals in 30 matches and was awarded the Golden Shoe for the best player in the Netherlands.
Bony’s outstanding record both in the Eredivisie and in the premier league is very hard to overlook and should the player make the switch to the Emirates in the summer, he is most certainly going to live up to expectations and deliver the goals up front for us. Do you agree with me?
