Latest reports are suggesting that Arsenal manager – Arsene Wenger has stepped up pursuit for his long time admirer and is reportedly set to offer a bid to prise the talented midfielder away from the Spanish giants in the summer as Wenger continues his search for quality players to bloster his squad for the coming season.
The Gunners are lining up a £16million summer swoop for Real Madrid star Sami Khedira according to the Express.
The Arsenal boss has made Spanish international and former Gunners captain Fabregas his number one transfer target this summer, but has identified German Khedira as a possible alternative if a deal with Barcelona can’t be agreed.
Khedira, who missed most of this season with injury, has just one year remaining on his contract and could be available for as little as £16million this summer.
Carlo Ancelotti is understood to be a big fan of the 27-year-old but will consider selling the player if he can’t persuade him to sign a new deal at the Santiago Bernabeu.
Khedira is part of Germany’s World Cup squad in Brazil but his club future appears less than certain.
According to reports in France, Arsene Wenger is interested in bringing the midfielder to the Emirates.
French paper Le 10 Sport claim the Gunners are lining up a £16m bid for Khedira.
Although the 27-year-old missed a huge chunk of last season with a knee injury but returned in time to help Real lift the Champions League trophy.
But with Juventus star Paul Pogba, PSG midfielder Marco Verratti and Chelsea’s Ramires all on Carlo Ancelotti’s radar, the German would likely favour a move away from the Spanish captital this summer.
Arsenal, should the German be up for a move will face stiff competition from Fiorentina who are also reportedly keen on Khedira, while Jose Mourinho is a fan of the former Stuttgart anchor man.
Should Wenger abandon all attempt to bring a now “more attacking minded” Fabragas back to the Emirates and move for a more “defensive mided” Khidera? Or should Wenger land the double in the summer instead?
