Following the opening of the transfer window officially yesterday July 1, Arsenal fans will now be expecting to to see the much awaited player(s) which Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has finally made up his mind to go for this summer.
The Frenchman had before the end of the season told the media that he will not be signing any player until the end of the World Cup. A feat which the Arsenal boss has largely achieved as Wenger has so far kept his cool in the transfer market following the ongoing competition in Brazil.
But this has not deterred the interest of several Arsenal targets from sending out come and get me messages to Arsenal. With one in particular being Colombia World Cup star Jackson Martinez who admitted that he would jump at the chance to sign for Arsenal.
The fearsome striker is reportedly at the top of Wenger’s wishlist, and it is believed that the Frenchman is willing to meet Jackson’s £35million buyout clause.
Martinez has fired home 60 goals in 91 games for his current club, and is widely regarded as one of the most clinical finishers in the business.
Arsenal are admittedly on the search for a striker, with Olivier Giroud struggling at times last season as he carried his side’s title challenge single-handedly, and Jackson fits the criteria that Wenger is looking for.
The Gunners have seen Nicklas Bendtner depart on a free transfer, and after conceding defeat in the battle for Real Sociedad’s Carlos Vela, they will attempt to prise Jackson away from Portugal after the striker revealed that he was a big fan of the Emirates side.
He said: “I know that there have been discussions, but still no agreements.
“My agent is taking care of my future, right now I’m at the World Cup and only after the World Cup I’ll evaluate proposals.
“As a child I cheered for Arsenal, they play a game that suits me. If I had the occasion to play there, I would say yes.”
The 27-year-old who bagged a brace for his national side; Colombia when they took on Japan in their final group stage match will be looking to extend his goal tally for the competition when his side take on host Brazil in an all important quarter-final tie after Colombia cruised past Uruguay in their round of 16 tie.
Another Colombian and fellow teammate of Martinez Wenger is interested in is Juan Cuadrado.
