Arsenal Manager – Arsene Wenger after admitting on several occasions about his team’s lack of firepower upfront have been on the lookout for a potent striker. With many reports suggesting the Frenchman is looking to repeat a similar marque transfer window surprise such as the Mesut Ozil to Arsenal deal last summer.
Now Arsenal are in pole position to sign Alexis Sanchez after tabling a whopping £30million offer as Liverpool open talks with Barcelona over the sale of Luis Suarez.
Reports claim that Gunners boss Wenger will meet with Sanchez’s agent in Brazil to thrash out personal terms after agreeing to comply with Barcelona’s asking price, but Liverpool are determined not to miss out as they negotiate a fee for Uruguay star Suarez.
Sanchez is understood to prefer a move to London over Merseyside, and has no plans to be used as a bargaining chip while the Catalan giants discuss potential numbers with Ian Ayre and Brendan Rodgers.
Wenger is determined to make at least one big-name signing this summer, and with Real Madrid playing hardball over Angel Di Maria, the acquisition of Sanchez would certainly sate the thirst of most Gunners fans.
Sanchez fired home 21 goals last season, as well as providing 17 assists, and Barcelona have already confirmed they’ve received a number of offers for his signature.
“Regarding the future of Alexis Sanchez, there have been offers for the player,” said sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta.
“But I do not know how it will all end – we are looking for a solution which will be best for everyone.”
