According to reports in Spain, the Premier League giants are keen to lure the former Arsenal man back to England this summer.
Song joined Barcelona in 2012, after a seven year spell at Arsenal and since joining the Catalan giants, the Cameroon international has found it difficult to break into the first team at the Nou Camp. He has often found himself playing second fiddle to Spanish enforcer Sergio Busquets, and when he has played he has often had to fill in for centre-backs Carlos Puyol and Gerard Pique.
Now Spanish newspaper Mundo Deportivo claim that Blues boss Jose Mourinho and United manager Louis van Gaal are both keen to add a holding midfielder to their squad’s this summer and have made Alexander Song one of their main transfer targets.
Mundo Deportivo also claim that Barca are willing to let Song leave the Nou Camp this summer for a fee of £20m. But Barca’s valuation of the player could however end Chelsea’s and United’s pursuit of the former Arsenal man as £20m is a lot of money to pay for a player who has only played 39 games in the last two years.
The reports also had it that Barca has had no real offers yet for Song but claims that a host of top clubs in Europe have all shown interest in the player with the likes of Manchester United, Napoli, Inter Milan, Chelsea, Marseille all in the mix
But one thing that remains sure is the 26-year-old’s future at the club is hanging in the balance with new boss – Luis Enrique making it clear that his defensive pivots for the new season will be Sergio Busquets and Javier Mascherano leaving the player with yet another season on the bench imminent.
