Arsenal boss – Arsene Wenger is eager to add quality as well as depth to his squad and as such has been very busy early in the summer transfer window (An usual fashion compared to the usual last minute signings), trying to wrap up as much deals as possible before the Gunners kick-start their pre-season campaign which is set to begin in the next couple of days.
It is however clear that Arsenal aren’t messing around in this transfer window. After snapping up Alexis Sanchez from Barcelona last week, reports in Spain now believe the Gunners have agreed a £23m deal for Sami Khedira.
The German international, who cruelly missed Sunday night’s World Cup final after suffering an injury in the warm-up, has been a target for the Arsenal boss this summer. And despite reports last week suggesting Chelsea were planning to hijack the Gunners’ move for the Real Madrid man, it seems Wenger has taken the biggest step yet to securing his signature, by agreeing a £23m fee.
Now Catalan daily newspaper Sport are claiming that the deal between the two clubs for the German star is set. A situation which could see Arsenal drop their interest in Bayer Leverkusen’s Lars Bender as well as Southampton’s Morgan Schneiderlin .
Although Arsenal still have to agree personal terms with Khedira, with the 27-year-old believed to be demanding in excess of £150,000-per-week.
If the move goes through, Khedira will join the growing German contigent – and now world champions – Mesut Ozil, Lukas Podolski and Per Mertesacker at the Emirates, as well as youngster Serge Gnabry.
It will however be interesting in the coming days to see how this event will turn out. With Wenger’s sudden eagerness in the transfer window said to be the main catalyst driving the deal thus far.
