And yes! Arsenal has made yet another top signing in this transfer window, and this goes a long way to show that the club are in for a fight for the premier league title this season.
First it was Alexis Sanchez, and now its Mathieu Debuchy, although his signing could be said to be the worst kept secret. But the Arsenal fans were left in the dark in recent days and most of us began to have doubts concerning this deal.
I believe Debuchy’s signing is a step-up to what we previously had in Sagna and he would join the already sturdy defence, which i think could pocket the best attackers in the league on its day.
An elated Debuchy had his first interview with the club and spoke as If he has been at the club ever since Wenger stepped his foot at the Emirates.
He said; “I’m very proud to be joining a great club like Arsenal and to wear its colours, it’s one of the biggest clubs in the whole world. I’m looking forward to working with Arsène Wenger and to helping the team build on last season’s FA Cup success. Playing again in the Champions League is a big excitement for me and I will do my best to help Arsenal compete for trophies.”
Debuchy will join up with his new team-mates soon for pre-season preparations and is expected to make his debut at the Emirates Cup in the first weekend of August.
Arsenal Boss, Arsene Wenger who had previously watched the 29-year-old while on duty with the Les Blues in the just concluded World Cup in Brazil welcomed his fellow compatriot to the club.
Wenger said: “We are delighted to welcome Mathieu Debuchy to Arsenal Football Club. He has shown he can perform at the highest level with his club sides and also for France. He is a quality defender who has good Premier League experience and I’m confident he will fit in very well with us.”
Indeed Debuchy is coming on the back of a lot of premier league experience and is sure an upgrade to what we had in Sagna. Arsenal have indeed raised the bar with this signing in their pursuit for more trophies next season and with many suggesting that there are more signings to follow.
