Arsenal take on Thierry Henry’s New York Red bull at the Red Bull stadium in Saturday’s evening time kick-off (5 p.m. ET)
The match which will be the Gunners second pre-season game after cruising past Boreham Wood last weekend in a game that ended 2-0 in favour of the Gunners.
The two sides met in the 2011 edition of the Emirates Cup, a 1-1 draw, that the Red Bulls ultimately won.
Wenger has once again given chance to a handful of youngsters. Here is a list of the squad that jetted off to New York:
Goalkeepers: Damien Martinez, Wojciech Szczesny
Defenders: Hector Bellerin, Kieran Gibbs, Isaac Hayden, Carl Jenkinson, Ignasi Miquel, Nacho Monreal, Francis Coquelin
Midfielders: Mikel Arteta, Santi Cazorla, Abou Diaby, Mathieu Flamini, Kristoffer Olsson, Aaron Ramsey, Tomas Rosicky, Jon Toral, Jack Wilshere, Gedion Zelalem
Forward: Chuba Akpom.
Here is my predicted starting line up for the friendly match..
Wojciech Szczesny will definitely be in-between the sticks for Arsenal.
Hector Bellerin: The Spaniard who came on in the second half of the encounter at Boreham Wood last weekend is tipped to start ahead of Jenkinson.
Kieran Gibbs: Gibbs came on as a substitute for Arsenal against Boreham Wood but is also expected to make the starting eleven at the Red Bull Stadium.
Isaac Hayden: The absence of Per Mertesacker will once again see youngster Hayden make a second start for the Gunners after his first at Boreham Wood last weekend.
Francis Coquelin: The absence of Laurent Koscielny will once again see Coquelin make a second start for the Gunners after his first at Boreham Wood last weekend.
Abou Diaby: Wenger will be looking to hand Diaby some more game time to build his fitness level ahead of the new season.
Aaron Ramsey: The Welshman put up a fine display against Boreham Wood last weekend. Captaining the side from the start of the match but was substituted at the second half. But he will be handed another start against Henry’s side and possibly captaining the team today again
Gedion Zelalem: Gedion had a good game against Boreham Wood last weekend and totally impressed Wenger so it would safe to say that he would be handed another start today against the New York Red Bull.
Kristoffer Olsson: Olsson put up a nice show for the Gunners last weekend coming on from the bench and finding the back of the net. I wont be surprised if Wenger hands him another place in the starting line up today against the New York Red Bull.
Jack Wilshere: Wilshere although wasn’t included in the starting line up for the Gunners against Boreham Wood. But it is likely that Wenger would be looking to give the player a first team start time to increase his fitness level.
Chuba Akpom: 18-year-old Chuba Akpom is the only forward that travelled with the squad and will look to stake a claim for the first team squad after impressing against Boreham Wood.
It is Expected that with this line up the gunners should comfortably cruise to a 2-1 victory (my guess).
What are your guesses?
