Arsenal, who have been threatening as regards to the transfer market this summer are yet again at it and this time its a double!
After weeks of paper talks and rumours, Arsene Wenger has finally confirmed the signing of David Ospina from Nice. With the Gunners also capturing the signature of Saints youngster Calum Chambers.
Ospina has reportedly signed a four year deal with the Gunners and will put pressure on Wojciech Szczesny and challenge him for the number one spot at the Emirates.
Ospina, who is the brother in law of the newest Madridista James Rodriguez, made his full international debut aged just 18 and made is full start against Bolivia making him the second youngest keeper to start a match for Colombia.
The 25-year-old kept 13 cleansheets last season and shows that Wenger wanted someone who would push Szczesny for a starting place rather than sign a veteran who may be happy to sit on the bench.
Also, Arsenal are expected to confirm the signing of Southampton defender Calum Chambers for a fee of about £16m on Monday.
The England Under-19 international will join the Gunners’ Austria training camp after he underwent a medical on Friday.
Chambers, 19, has made 25 senior appearances for the Saints and Arsenal see him as an option at right-back, centre-back or in a more advanced role.
Chambers would become Arsenal’s fourth summer signing following the arrivals of Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez, Newcastle right-back Mathieu Debuchy and Nice goalkeeper David Ospina.
These two signings are said to have been done and dusted with an official announcement and unvieling by Arsenal set to be done early this week.
