Picture: Szczesny Officially Welcomes Ospina To Arsenal.

Arsenal had over the weekend announced the signing of Columbian goalkeeper David Ospina from French side Nice in a deal thought to be in the region of £3 million.

Ospina has reportedly signed a four year deal with the Gunners and will put pressure on Wojciech Szczesny and challenge him for the number one spot at the Emirates.

The 25-year-old kept 13 cleansheets last season and shows that Wenger wanted someone who would push Szczesny for a starting place rather than sign a veteran who may be happy to sit on the bench.

Arsène Wenger when asked about the club’s latest signing told Arsenal’s official website:

“David Ospina is an excellent goalkeeper, with good experience and a proven record of performing with Nice and Colombia. He will add strength to our squad and we are very pleased that he will be joining us.”

Arsenal’s first choice goalkeeper Szczesny following the announcement of the arrival of his rival by the clubs official website has himself welcomed the new signing to the club.

The Polish goalkeeper who took part in Arsenal’s 1-0 defeat on Saturday against Thierry Henry’s New York Red Bull side took to his official account on popular social media outlet Instagram to welcome Ospina.

The picture post which was followed by a short message from Szczesny read:

“David Ospina, Welcome to Arsenal FC!”

Szczesny still remains Arsenal current no1 choice but he is also aware that there is no room for any lackustre performance with Wenger himself personally insisting that he expects top notch performances as he will switch choices if he feels any complacency from Szczesny.

He said: “At the start, [Wojciech] Szczesny will be the No1 [goalkeeper] then we’ll be down to performances and if Ospina shows that he is better, he will play,”
