The search for a defensive midfielder is still on, with Arsenal yet to make up their mind on where to pitch their tent and still have their interest dangling between Sami Khedira and Morgan Schneiderlin.
Khedira is in a precarious situation right now because Real Madrid have gotten a direct replacement for his position and are ready to now offload him to any club who meets his transfer fee which is reported to be with in the region of 26 million pounds. However, his deal has hit snag since Arsenal are reluctant to smash their wage structure to meet his exotic wage demand believed to be in region of 160,000 pounds.
This seems to have shifted Arsenal’s attention to Southampton’s star-Schneiderlin,who was the best player in his position as he earned accolades for the highest work rate, most successful blocks and interceptions in the 2013/2014 Premier league campaign.
Knowing Wenger’s predilection for young or French players, you would understand why he cannot just take his eyes off this 24-year-old since he ticks all the boxes. Of course Southampton is ready to let him join the rest of the 1st team players who are taking turns to leave the club.
However, Arsenal can’t assure him of a regular starting position which has alerted Tottenham (who have been relegated from a rival to being a pest) to join in the race for his signature.
I just hope Arsenal could intensify efforts to bring this star to the club, as he would provide the much needed strength in depth in the defensive midfield position and it’s time for Wenger to have some words with him because he has been instrumental in bringing the other players.
It’s crucial for Schneiderlin to know that his potential move to the Spurs isn’t a step higher from where he used to be and he would have to compete with the likes of Sandro, Dembele,Nabil Bentaleb,Etienne Capoue and Paulinho and forever remain in Arsenal’s shadow.
