With just about a month left till the end of the transfer window, Arsenal are still not done with their transfer dealings with the Gunners being linked with a host of other targets and are expected to bring them in before the end of the transfer window.
Arsène Wenger has ruled out Arsenal signing FC Porto playmaker Juan Quintero. Despite several reports claiming that the Gunners are looking to snap up the youngster
The Colombian international had been strongly linked with a move to Arsenal by a number of sources over the past week but the Gunners boss put the rumour to rest by denying the claims.
Speaking to Arsenal.com, Wenger said:
“That’s wrong [on Quintero].
“We do not master all the noises that come out.”
The French manager went on to say that the club are not close to signing anybody at the moment and went as far to say they have no interest in any player in particular:
“I don’t want to give you any names but at the moment we are not after anybody in particular. Are we close? It depends what you call close. What I call close is imminent. On that front, we are not close.”
Arsenal have made four signings so far this summer – goalkeeper David Ospina from Nice, right backs Mathieu Debuchy and Calum Chambers from Newcastle United and Southampton respectively, and forward Alexis Sánchez from Barcelona.
The Gunners kicked off their Premier League campaign two weeks today and whilst there are still more than four weeks of the transfer window to go, it appears that Wenger certainly has no big targets on his wish list for the remainder of the summer. The signings of Mesut Özil, Alexis Sánchez and Calum Chambers over the past twelve months are the three most-expensive signings in the club’s history.
Wenger’s side were in action today against Portuguese Primeira Liga champions Benfica before taking on French Ligue 1 runners-up AS Monaco tomorrow – both games as part of annual Emirates Cup.
Arsenal face Manchester City in the FA Community Shield on Sunday 10 August – their first appearance in this type of match since 2005. All four of their new signings are currently fit and available to make their professional debut for the club in this game. The match itself allows for each side to make six substitutions.
The Gunners start with Crystal Palace in the opening weekend of the 2014-15 Premier League season. The match is at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday 16 August.
