In what has potentially been one of the most reported transfer story so far for the Gunners this summer transfer window has been somewhat put to rest with comments from the boss today.
Sami Khedira! That name has been making the headline for several weeks now with some Arsenal fans even believing that the deal would have be done even before the arrival of the Gunners third and fourth signing due to the massive reports about Arsenal’s interest in the Real Madrid star.
Arsene Wenger today, while speaking to Arsenal’s official website confirmed that the Gunners are still open to do business this summer. But in a twist of event, Wenger further squashed the heavy reports and rumours of Arsenal being linked with a move for Real Madrid and German star Khedira.
Wenger when asked if Arsenal are still in the transfer market for more player said: “It could happen, yes,”.
“I cannot give you any names specifically who will join us at the moment.”
“We are not close to signing anybody and it will be the wrong information.”
“We have still three-and-a-half weeks before the transfer market is closed and we are open to it.
“But it has to be a player who can strengthen our squad because let’s not forget that Joel Campbell has come back plus the addition of Debuchy, Chambers and [Alexis] Sanchez who have joined us.”
“We have already bought four players, we have not lost players until now so we have a big squad at the moment. At the moment I can’t give you any news but we have not closed the door.”
However, Wenger ruled out a move for Germany international Khedira. When asked about the club’s interest in the player, Wenger said:
“We were never close to signing him because Jack Wilshere has come back fit and in midfield we have quite a few offensive box-to-box players,” he explained.
Could the boss be playing it cool by squashing reports of the Gunners being linked with a move Khedira?
Is the boss really planning to deploy Wilshere down that position as he mentioned earlier?
Only time will tell the outcome of this recent comments from Wenger. But meanwhile Gunners, share your thoughts with us on this issue.
